Indigo Dyeing

Sample illustration (photo coming soon)

At a small indigo studio in Ryujin village, you dye your own piece with natural, fermented indigo – no chemicals. You make the patterns with rubber bands and wooden boards, a technique said to date back to the Edo period. Traditional shibori with needle and thread is also available (extra fee).

I dyed a T-shirt. It was harder than it looked! But it’s my one-and-only T-shirt, so I love it.
