Kumano Kodo Komorian
Pilgrims Package
Special Thanks to R for this beautiful video with Wabi Sabi touch
Komorian is a private rental house for one group per night, located near the Takijiri 滝尻 and Takahara 高原 of Kumano Kodo 熊野古道. The house has 2 bed rooms and 1 living dining room, spacy enough for 2 to 4 people.
The beautiful main house (more than 100㎡) is all yours during your stay, and Miko (female host) stays at a separate tiny house next to the main house to support you for 24 hours.
HISTORY OF THE HOUSE
Komorian was originally built by a GEISHA-san 芸者さん. She built this beautiful retreat house for the purpose of entertaining her VIPs even after her retirement. A Miya-Daiku-san 宮大工さん, a carpenter with high skills specializing in building temple/shrine, took charge of designing and construction of the house. All the pillars and fittings used for this house are luxurious and highly valuable.
The house is located in a small cottage area, just aside of a small stream. You can fall asleep hearing sounds of insects and clear stream, escaping from the hustle and bustle of the city.
ABOUT THE HOST
Hello! I am Miko, the host of this house. I also love to hike Kumano Kodo. I walked the first half of Nakahechi route (Takijiri to Hongu) 4 times, and challenged Kogumotori-goe (Hongu to Koguchi) and Ogumotori-goe (Koguchi to Nachi) in winter 2024. Due to these experiences, I have enough knowledge about the route, like, location of restaurants, break away points from the trail, where signals for cell phones get weak, etc.
I like cats, cooking, taking care of vegetable garden and short trips. I speak Japanese, English and Korean.
I would like to help your Kumano Kodo trekking as possible as I can so that every guest who stayed at Komorian can enjoy the trekking safely.
WHY YOU SHOULD STAY WITH US
Traditional way to walk Kumano Kodo is, to book multiple accommodations along the route and to move day by day from a lodge to the next one on foot. Luggage shuttle arrangement will be separately needed.
You have to walk following the plan even when you get tired or when the weather is not good for trekking. You have to pack your luggage every morning, and sometimes you have to wake up early in the moning because you don’t want to miss local bus.
“If I were a hiker, I would like to stay at one base to accomplish 3-4 days trekking. I would feel safe and comfortable if someone could drop me off at the trailhead and pick me up at the goal of the day. I might to want to walk further if I could, or I might to want to stop if I got exhausted.”
This was how we started our unique service.
We are happy to have you more than one night. Our shuttle service covers the first half of Nakahechi route (from Takijiri 滝尻 to Hongu 本宮). If you stay 2 to 3 nights with us, you can complete the the first half of Nakahechi route without moving accommodation day by day.
You don’t have to get up early being afraid you might miss your bus. You don’t have to pack your luggage every morning. You can even change the hiking plan depending on the day’s condition. Enjoy the walking as if you stay at your own vacation house.

Response from Komorian to Laura
Hi Laura!
It’s been a month after you left and I still remember you and your family’s merry laughter heard from the living room while I was cooking. It made me really happy because I felt you guys got relaxed and enjoying the stay.
Someday, I will go and knock on the door of your house… with beautiful Hantens for you…😏😏
Gorgeous place!
This is an absolute gem of a place! The view from the living room is fantastic, the beds are comfortable, and the food is amazing. Everything is so well thought out, and you can truly see how much love and care Miko has put into the place. We highly recommend staying here without a doubt.

I tried more than 100000000 times to reply the review below only to fail.
And the developer of this function has been ignoring my inquiry…(-“-)
So, I would like to leave my reply to Esther like this…☺

Hi Esther, thank you for the warm review!
After you guys left, it started snowing in Kumano Area. Not that much, but I think you, or at least your husband (whose favorite temperature is minus 2 degree), would have loved this clear and cold air around the house now.
I am SO happy if I could be a part of your memorable journey in Japan and I myself really enjoyed to have you, wish you could stay longer 😢
From now on, this air of winter will remind me of you guys every year, and I will go to see you and your beloved animals in future! See you then❤
Superb beyond words!!
Booked 2 other places with very limited travel and then saw The Komorian and cancelled our other reservations. So so glad we did!!
Miko was the most hospitable, kind, generous and memorable host ever met.
The house was clean, beautiful and authentically Japanese, giving us the gift of experiencing the true heart of Japan.
Due to the nature of Kumano Kodo being remote, Miko’s host house had everything we needed and more.
Amazing meals, beyond words, ease of travel, long private Japanese bath post walks, the double doors with a creek view, privacy and the beautiful heart felt personal touches that is added to this place makes it so so unique.
Thank you Miko, our stay has been memorable and we didn’t want to leave ❤️
Fantastic place to stay while exploring the Kumano Kodo
We stayed with Miko at her wonderful house for three nights while we did the Kumano Kodo. Miko is a delightful host; extremely helpful and her meals were amazing! The house itself is beautiful, private and comfortable. We would love to stay there again next time we visit!

Hi Ben! Thank you for the nice review!
I watched the Zombie TV drama you guys reccommended for me, and it was really great! And I am going to challenge the Kogumotori-Goe and Okumotori-Goe in this coming winter. Yes, winter is coming….☺
Anyways, take care and see you again in future!
