Komorian is a private rental house for one group per night, located near the Takijiri 滝尻 (7 minutes by shuttle) and Takahara 高原 (12 minutes by shuttle) of Kumano Kodo 熊野古道, spacy enough for 2 to 4 people.
The main beautiful house (more than 100㎡) is entirely rented only to the day’s group, and Miko (female host) stays at a separate tiny house next to the main house to support you for 24 hours.
GEISHA HOUSE
Komorian was originally owned by an authentic GEISHA. She had this beautiful retreat house built to entertain her VIPs after her retirement.
That’s why the house is located in a hidden small village, which is not commercialized at all, not like as Takahara or Chikatsuyu. If you are interested in experiencing a real raw rural countryside in Japan, this is the ONE.
ABOUT THE HOST
Hello! I am Miko, the host of this house.
Due to the experiences I walked the Nakahechi Route by myself, I can share information that is necesarry for our guests, like, location of restaurants, break away points from the trail, where signals for cell phones get weak, etc.
I speak Japanese, English and Korean ☺
WHY YOU SHOULD STAY WITH US
Traditional way to walk Kumano Kodo is, booking multiple accommodations along the route and moving each day from a lodge to the next one on foot. In this way, you have to stick to the original plan even when you need a rest or when the weather is not good. Additionaly, you have to pack your luggage every morning, and wake up early so as not to miss local bus.
To solve these difficulties, we are offering consecutive stay package (2 nights and 3 nights). Our shuttle service covers the first half sections of Nakahechi route (Takijiri 滝尻 – Takahara 高原 – Chikatsuyu 近露 – Nonaka 野中 – Hosshinmon 発心門 – Hongu 本宮). Guests can complete the sections that are included above without moving accommodation day by day.
No need to get up early. No need to pack your luggage every morning. You can even change the hiking plan depending on the day’s condition. Enjoy the walking as if you are staying at your friends’ vacation house.
※The walking sections above is one of the conditions to get a certificate for Dual Pilgrims Program, which many guests accomplished staying at Komorian ✨

During your stay, we shuttle you from/to the trailhead and goal of the day in certain areas. For more details, please refer to our model itineraries below.
Note : Koguchi, Nachi or Shingu Area are not covered by our free guest/luggage shuttle service.

We deliver your luggage to your next accommodation in Hongu, Kawayu, Yunomine and Watarase Area on the check-out day. For more details, please refer to our model itineraries below.

🚗 guest/luggage shuttle time schedule on the CHECK-IN Day
We will pick you up at Takijiri bus stop (the starting point of Kumano Kodo Nakahechi Route) .
In the case you would like to walk the 2 hours short cource “Takijiri oji to Takahara Rest Area” before checking in, we can collect your luggage at Takijiri bus stop. In this case, you will be collected by us at Takahara Rest Area in 2-3 hours.
🚗 guest/luggage shuttle time schedule on the CHECK-OUT Day
Most of our guests head to Hongu Area after leaving Komorian. In this case, we will deliver your luggage directly to your next accommodation in Hongu, Kawayu, Yunomine and Watarase Area on the same day, after we drop you off at the day’s trailhead.
If you are going back to Kii-Tanabe Station direction straightly. we will shuttle you to the same bus stop “Takijiri” with your luggage.
※ Please note: Usually, about the luggage delivery service after leaving the next inn will be arranged by the manager of the inn. Please try to contact them if necessary. If there is any difficulty to contact them, please let me know.
※ For those who would like to send luggage to the othere area (such as Osaka, Kyoto, Tokyo or any other place other than Wakayama prefecture), we can help arrange Kuroneko Yamato (their service covers all over Japan). Using Kuroneko Yamato costs extra, and he arrival date of luggage will be 2 days later of the collection at the fastest.
* 1 night Stay: Luggage transfer from Komorian to next accommodation costs extra. ＜From the booking made after 21th Jan＞.
(3) Dinner and Breakfast
Freshly cooked meals will be served in the house. The menu varies depending on season.
*Lunch box costs extra, if needed.
🍖 About dietary restriction
- Only BEEF, PORK, CHICKEN (and each broth), COOKED FISH, RAW FISH (sashimi) and SHRIMP can be eliminated, IF ONLY you inform us UPON BOOKING PROCESS.
- Any other ingredients such as FISH BROTH, GLUTEN, DAIRY PROCUCTS or EGG cannot be eliminated.
- For those who have food allegy, please be aware that we can eliminate the ingridients above but contamination is NOT avoidable.
- Vegan food, Non dairy food and/or Non gluten food NOT available.
- Lacto-ovo vegetarian (without fish broth) is available only for 1 NIGHT STAY.
- Dietary request cannot be changed or added after completing the payment.

Belows are sample itineraries of 3 nights 4 days package. Guests can walk first half of Nakahechi Route. In these itineraries, guests stay 3 nights at Komorian and then stay overnight at any inn you book in Hongu Area.

DAY 1

Have lunch before taking bus at Kii-Tanabe sta,
Take local bus to Takijiri bus stop* with luggage,
At Takijiri bus stop, deposit luggage to the host,
Walk hands-free to Takahara Rest Area,
Collected at Takahara Rest Area,
Check in and stay at Komorian.
* For those you are coming from Koyasan (Mount Koya), you can take the direct access bus from Koya Area and can be collected at Kurisugawa bus stop.
DAY 2

Shuttled to Takahara Rest Area,
Walk from Takahara to Tsugizakura Oji,
(Have lunch at a restaurant in Chikatsuyu Area,)
Collected around Tsugizakura Oji,
Stay at Komorian.
DAY 3

Shuttled to Tsugizakura Oji,
Walk to Hosshinmon Oji,
(Have Komorian Lunch Box on the trail,)
Collected at Hosshinmon Oji,

Changing the date or partially cancelling the date of existing reservation constitutes a cancellation of the existing reservation and making a new reservation. In those cases, the cancellation fee above should be applied to whole date to be cancelled. (For example, when changing a reservation for 3 nights to 2 nights, the cancellation fee will be applied to the fare for 3 nights.)

Gorgeous place!
This is an absolute gem of a place! The view from the living room is fantastic, the beds are comfortable, and the food is amazing. Everything is so well thought out, and you can truly see how much love and care Miko has put into the place. We highly recommend staying here without a doubt.

After you guys left, it started snowing in Kumano Area. Not that much, but I think you, or at least your husband (whose favorite temperature is minus 2 degree), would have loved this clear and cold air around the house now.
I am SO happy if I could be a part of your memorable journey in Japan and I myself really enjoyed to have you, wish you could stay longer 😢
From now on, this air of winter will remind me of you guys every year, and I will go to see you and your beloved animals in future! See you then❤

Booked 2 other places with very limited travel and then saw The Komorian and cancelled our other reservations. So so glad we did!!
Miko was the most hospitable, kind, generous and memorable host ever met.
The house was clean, beautiful and authentically Japanese, giving us the gift of experiencing the true heart of Japan.
Due to the nature of Kumano Kodo being remote, Miko’s host house had everything we needed and more.
Amazing meals, beyond words, ease of travel, long private Japanese bath post walks, the double doors with a creek view, privacy and the beautiful heart felt personal touches that is added to this place makes it so so unique.
Thank you Miko, our stay has been memorable and we didn’t want to leave ❤️
Fantastic place to stay while exploring the Kumano Kodo
We stayed with Miko at her wonderful house for three nights while we did the Kumano Kodo. Miko is a delightful host; extremely helpful and her meals were amazing! The house itself is beautiful, private and comfortable. We would love to stay there again next time we visit!

A dreamy experience
The Komorian house is the house of our dreams, and Miko-san is the perfect host: she will make you feel at home and pay attention to every detail. All the meals she prepares are plentiful and delicious and she’s an amazing person.
Also the architecture of the house couldn’t be more beautiful. It has been an amazing experience, and we hardly found better accommodation during our stay in Japan. We are very grateful. Hopefully, we can come back in the future!
