Cycling & Sightseeing in Shirahama

Ride along Shirahama’s coast by bicycle. The route links some of the area’s best-known sights, with short rides of about 10 to 20 minutes between stops.
Recommended route
- Senjojiki (千畳敷) – a huge white rock platform by the sea. The café next door sells beautiful fruit cocktail juices made with local fruit.
- Sandanbeki (三段壁) – sea cliffs about 50 m high.
The cave tour (extra fee) is recommended. This is where the Kumano Suigun naval clan once hid their boats. - Mifune Ashiyu (御船足湯) – a free foot bath (open 8:00–22:00) with a view of Engetsu Island, popular at sunset
- Engetsu Island (円月島) – one of Japan’s 100 best sunsets; in spring and autumn the sun sets through the hole in the island
- Saki-no-yu (崎の湯) – an open-air hot spring overlooking the Pacific Ocean, said to be Japan’s oldest hot spring. A nice way to wash off the sweat from cycling. Soap and shampoo are not allowed. Closed on Wednesdays.
There are plenty of restaurants in Shirahama – a great place to have dinner after your ride.
